Juhla, A Finnish Celebration
Below is a picture of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performing Juhla, A Finnish Celebration commemorating Finland's 90 years of independence. The event took place on November 22, 2007 at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. The symphony chorus was bolstered by three Finnish choirs; the Hilldale Lutheran Church Choir, the Oras Ladies' Choir, and the Otava Male Choir, all totaling 100 singers. The Finnish voices were interspersed throughout the chorus to help with pronunciation of Finnish words. The chorus joined the orchestra for two songs; Sibelius' Captive Queen and Finlandia Hymn. A large audience was thrilled by the splendid performance.
